Illumination's “Migration” Takes Flight in First Full Trailer

In recent years, animation studios have been attracted to CG family films starring birds like ducks to water. Rio, Storks, Free Birds, The Angry Birds Movie, Happy Feet, Penguins of Madagascar, Surf's Up, Duck Duck Goose, and at least a half dozen foreign productions over the past decade.

This is a source of mild curiosity for me. Whether this is based on some kind of market research that children want animated films with birds in them, or because it is easy to make CG animations of birds, or because of the cinematic possibilities of showing flight in CG animation, I like birds as much as the next person, but the abundance of CG films of birds is a sign that my understanding of animation trends. I like birds as much as the next guy, but the plethora of CG films of birds betrays my understanding of animation trends. I don't have an answer, but Universal's “Migration” will be released on December 22.
