31 animated features are in this year's Oscar race: The full list

Thirty-one animation features will be considered in the Feature Animation category at the 97th Academy Awards.

The number of films eligible is 33 shy of last year's record 2 nominees.

The list of eligible films was released today by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences:

The Feature animation category is a one-time voting process, and there is no shortlist like the Animation Short Oscar category. 5 candidates in this category are selected directly from this list by members of the Academy's short film and feature animation department.

Academy members in other chapters are also eligible to vote for who will be a candidate, but must opt-in and view the minimum percentage of eligible films submitted. Once the candidates are revealed in mid-May 1, the final vote of the winner will be open to all active and lifelong Academy members.

Surprisingly diverse countries are included in the list, including Pakistan (glass craftsman), Dominican Republic (Capitan Avispa), China (Art College1994), Australia (Memoir of A Snail), Latvia (Flow) and Czech Republic (Living Large).

The French producer was involved in the production of at least six films on the qualified list: Chicken for Linda! There are many different types of games to choose from, Flow, Ghost Cat Anzu, Kensuke's Kingdom, Mars Express, Scirocco and the Kingdom of Wind. Japan is represented by 4 titles: "The Colors Within", "Ghost Cat Anzu", "The Imaginary" and "Look Back".

Also noteworthy is that 9 of the films have at least 1 female director, which is probably a record for this category.

Oscar nominations will be announced on Friday 1/17, and the 97th Oscar Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday 2025/3/2.
