My Sunny Maad" and "My Grandma's Sex Life" won the French Academy César Award.

France's 48th Cesar Awards opened Friday night with a new major award for Best Animated Feature for Michaela Pavlatová's "My Sunny Maad."

"My Sunny Maad" is the feature debut of Academy Award-nominated director Pavlatová, who has won numerous awards at international film festivals, including the Jury Prize at the 2021 Annecy International Film Festival, Best Feature Film at the 2021 Fuchuan International Film Festival, Best Feature Film at the 2022 Zagreb International Film Festival

Sadly, the film did not receive a theatrical release in the U.S. Totem Films handled worldwide distribution and Diaphana Distribution released the film in France. It was produced by Negativ Film, Sacrebleu Productions, and Bfilm.

Urschka Juki and Emilie Pijar's "Granny's Sexual Life" won the European Film Award for Best European Short Film and then the César Award for Best Best Animated Short Film.

"Granny's Sexual Life" is based on anonymous testimonies collected in Milena Miklavcic's book "Don't Play with Fire, Ass, and Snakes." In the film, four elderly women reflect on their memories of the old days when they were young. The film was selected in competition at the Annecy International Film Festival, the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival, and the Tallinn International Film Festival. At the Warsaw Animation Film Festival, the film was awarded a special prize for "showing the violent side of the world through appropriate animation techniques," according to the jury.

And this year's Visual Effects Award went to Laurence Ehrman, VFX supervisor on "Notre Dame de la Flame. Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, "Notre Dame in Flames" is a disaster film about the fire that captured the world's attention on April 15, 2019. It was produced by Pathé Films and TF1 Films Production in France with Wildside in Italy.
