First Trailer for "NINN," an Urban Fantasy Set in the Paris Metro - Exclusive
2020, French production company TeamTO has acquired the licensing rights to the popular fantasy graphic novel series NINN. The studio is in Bordeaux this week for Cartoon Movie, where producers will host a development pitch for their project. [As part of the pitch, they are showing a brand new teaser for the project, which they have given Cartoon Brew exclusive access to share with our readers.
The original NINN graphic novel was written by Jean-Michel Darlot and illustrated by Belgian artist Johan Piret. Four novels have been released so far, selling over 100,000 copies in France. A fifth book is currently in production.
The 80-minute feature film adaptation will be directed by Salome Chatelain from a script by Shakira Presley. Juliette Brokal, who recently designed characters for "Mars Express" and "Ridge of the Gods," is designing the characters for the film.
In the film, as in the book, Nin is found as a baby in the Paris subway and adopted by two subway workers. Thanks to his upbringing, Nin knows the subway so well that he is more comfortable skateboarding through its corridors than anywhere else.
Despite her outwardly carefree demeanor, Nin has a million questions about her life and where she came from. She is constantly confronted with confusing memories and sees colorful kaleidoscopic butterflies dancing through the underground tunnels. Even more amazingly, Nin acquires an origami tiger named Stripy, who can transform into a life-size walking, talking guardian.
"Nin and her tiger have a real comical relationship, camaraderie, and whimsical charm," says supervising producer Marin Chulu. Stripy is certainly Nin's biggest fan, but she wants Nin to focus on reality and keep her feet on the ground ...... Whatever you want to believe is real. ......."

According to Team TO, NINN is "a mystery-solving powerhouse loved for its curiosity and confidence" (Enola Holmes); "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "His Dark Materials" for "dealing with family, friendship, and growing up"; "comedy and dialogue" (Calvin and Hob The world develops in a tone similar to that of series and films such as "The Bubs". "[I was] very drawn to Nin, the free-spirited girl. She loves to skateboard in the metro and is very badass! She takes us on a magical journey with her humor and burst of courage."
Producer Corinne Cooper said, "I have lived in Paris all my life. Our main studio is in Paris, near the Bastille. Riding the metro is part of my daily life and perhaps one of the reasons why I love NINN's stories so much. I fell in love with this image of Ninn waiting for the metro with a big, whimsical tiger by his side."
