The Day The Earth Blew Up” gets a theatrical release date; will it enter this year's Oscar race?
Ketchup Entertainment today announced the North American release date for the Warner Bros. Animation feature film “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.” The film will hit theaters on Friday, February 28, 2025.
In addition, the studio will select “The Day the Earth Blew Up” for this year's Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature, meaning that the film will screen for at least one week in one of the six metropolitan areas in the United States selected by the Academy before the end of the year. The film will have its North American premiere this Saturday in Los Angeles as part of the Animation is Film festival. Tickets for the Los Angeles screening are already sold out. [Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, said in a statement, “For generations, Looney Tunes has captured the hearts of fans around the world, including my own. Bringing Peter Browngardt's hilarious, clever, emotional and brilliantly rendered story to theaters is a real treat for fans and film lovers of all ages.”
“The Day the Earth Exploded,” the feature directorial debut of Uncle Grandpa creator and Looney Tunes Cartoons executive producer Pete Braungart, stars Daffy Duck and Porky the Pig in the lead roles as they attempt to save the They try to save the world. The film premiered at the Annecy Animation Festival last June and was well received.
Major credits include lead voice actors Eric Bauza, Candy Milo, Peter McNicol, Wayne Knight, and Laraine Newman, director-producer Alex Kirwan, art director Nick Cross, production designer Aaron Spurgeon, and Braungardt and Sam Register as executive producers.
Uniquely, Braungardt acknowledged the board artists who worked on the film's screenplay, thus the film's credits include a longer list of screenwriters than usual. Darick Bachman, Braungardt, Kevin Costello, Andrew Dickman, David Gemmill, Alex Kirwan, Ryan Kramer, Jason Reicher, Michael Ruocco, Johnny Ryan, and Eddie Trigueros.
