European Film Awards Selects Five Notable Nominees for Animated Feature Film
Five animated feature films have been nominated for the 37th European Film Awards (EFA). The awards are the most prestigious pan-European awards in feature-length animation.
Nominations in the following categories:
The strong lineup includes two films by directors who have previously won the EFA Best Animated Feature Award: the stop-motion by Claude Barras, who won in 2016 for “My Life as a Zucchini” Savages,” and the hand-drawn They Shot the Piano Player by Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, who won in 2011 for Chico and Rita.
Another important contender is “Flow” by Gints Zilvarodis, which premiered in Un Certain Regard at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and made a splash in Annecy in June, winning more awards than any other film in competition this year.
The other two nominated films, “Sultana's Dream” by Isabelle Elguera and “Living Large” by Kristina Dufková, also won the Grand Prix Contrechamps and the Contrechamps Jury Prize respectively at Annecy this year.
The committee that determined the nominations was made up of representatives from the European Film Academy and the European Animated Film Institute (CARTOON).
The EFA's short film category combines animation and live action in the same category, and nominations have not yet been announced.
The 2024 European Film Awards will be held in Switzerland for the first time this year. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 7 in Lucerne.
