10 feature-length projects to learn more about at Cartoon Movie 2024

With just one month to go until Cartoon Movie, Europe's premier feature animation festival, takes place March 5-7 in Bordeaux, France, we took a look through this year's program and selected a few titles we're eager to learn more about We have selected a few titles that we would like to know more about.

Cartoon Movie will accept 55 projects from 16 countries this year. Most are still in development or concept stages, but a handful are already in production, and four will screen early sneak previews.

Since its inception in 1999, Cartoon Movie has funded 458 film projects, distributing over €3 billion ($3.24 billion) during that time. The event has become a valuable resource for the animation industry in the Americas.

Here is a closer look at 10 exciting projects (in alphabetical order) that are sure to impress at this year's event.

Directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Alain Gagnol ("Cat in Paris"), this film is about a man whose parents' divorce The film is a 2D feature film about Jules, whose life takes a sad turn when his parents divorce and is further disrupted by the unexpected arrival of his grandmother Jeanne. Things change when her grandmother Jeanne reveals that she can talk to dogs and cats.

Into the Wonderwoods, a recent Annecy Work in Progress title, combines 2D and CG techniques to tell the story of a boy who dreams of becoming an explorer and zoologist. The film tells the story of Angelo, a young boy who dreams of becoming an explorer and zoologist. Angelo is an explorer boy who dreams of becoming a zoologist. When Angelo goes on a trip with his family to visit his ailing grandmother, his distracted parents leave him at a rest stop. Left alone, Angelo decides to cut through the forest in search of his family. He enters a dark and mysterious world inhabited by strange creatures.

In this 2D family feature adapted from the book of the same name, Michael and his family leave home to travel the world by boat. During a storm, the boy is thrown overboard and washes up on an island. The film features a stellar voice cast including Sally Hawkins, Cillian Murphy, Raffey Cassidy, Aaron McGregor, and Ken Watanabe.

Another MIFA highlight, Little Run is a CG kids and family project full of heart and important lessons. The film features a young male blue penguin who takes on the role of a father when a volcano places a soft echidna egg in his path. The film's inspiring family story is used to convey a green message about humanity's place in the world and how our actions affect other creatures.

This Eastern European stop-motion feature, 12-year-old Ben's weight is a problem for him and for everyone else. Kids bully Ben, and his divorced parents don't know what to do with him. Despite his love of food and his budding talent as a chef, Ben decides to take matters into his own hands and starts a diet. Will losing weight make the boy happy, or is what's inside more important: Milorad Krstic

Another 2D proposal, " MouMoush" focuses on siblings Margo and Liam, who turn their summer vacation into an adventure fighting against the powers that be who dream of world domination. The siblings travel back in time to thwart MouMoush's evil plans, but they have to make several stops across time before arriving at the right place.

Featured in the MIFA feature pitch last year, Orgresse is a tragicomedy musical comedy about Ogresse, a lonely woman living in the woods, until a young man appears who tries to kill her and fatally steals her heart.

Targeting a YA audience, "Pale Pink" is a science fiction story about love, loss and hope. The 2D hand-drawn film takes place in a parallel universe on the other side of a black hole. On one side, Kuba and her young daughter crash-land on a desert planet. While the daughter explores her new world, Kuba tries to repair her rocket while listening to noises from space. On the other side of the black hole, the girl's mother falls ill and is hospitalized. As the black hole approaches Earth, the two stories intersect.

Situation: Based on Jean-Pascal Zadie's own experiences, this CG project is about a summer vacation in a suburban Paris neighborhood. The protagonist is 13-year-old Kali, who leaves her Normandy home for the first time to spend her summer vacation in a residential neighborhood in the suburbs of Paris. New slang, new music, new styles, new attitudes. Armed only with his sense of humor, he must make a place for himself in this urban jungle.

In the Alaskan wilderness, a lonely and fierce 17-year-old girl lives with her father and brother in a decrepit, isolated house. After the girl's mother goes missing, Tracy must deal with uncontrollable outbursts, sleep disturbances, and mysterious visions, unaware that her inherited talents connect her to nature and wildlife on a level she cannot yet imagine. Produced by Academy Award-nominated studio Folivari and directed by Patrick Imbert ("Ridge of the Gods"), the film is a film about the journey of a young girl who is forced to confront her own uncontrollable sleep disorder and the mysterious visions she has of her own.
