'Helva Boss' and 'Zach King' to be Honored for Animation and VFX at 2023 Streamy Awards
The 2023 Streamy Awards ceremony took place over the weekend, honoring the best online content creation.
This year's award for Best Animated IP went to Helluva Boss, another satanic creation from Hazbin Hotel creator Vivian Medrano (online name: Vivziepop). Helluva Boss is a hell-based Helluva Boss is developed by I.M.P. (Immediate Murder Professionals), a murder-for-hire company based in Hell. The series is produced by Spindlehorse Toons, an online artist collective founded by Medrano. Each video is posted on the Vivziepop Youtube channel, which earlier this year had over 1 billion views.
Medrano graduated from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City, where she studied traditional animation. Her work is heavily influenced by music, which is evident in most of the works published on her channel.
The 2023 Craft Award for Visual and Special Effects went to Zach King. He became famous on the Internet for creating short videos in which he appears to perform impossible magic tricks. He won the Best Visual Effects Award in 2021 and the Vine Creativity Award in 2014.
King studied film and media arts at Biola University, graduating in 2012. While in school, he began making tutorial videos for editing software on Youtube and quickly became popular among other VFX artists; in 2011, he scored his first viral hit with "Jedi Kittens" and has continued to impress the Internet with his engaging and surprising videos. His Youtube channel has over 6 billion views.
The Streamy Award nominees and winners are selected by an independent judging panel of creators, executives, and online video industry experts.
