Crunchyroll Launches 24/7 Channel to Reach New Audiences
Crunchyroll, a Sony-owned animation distribution company, will launch a 24/7 animation channel to tap into a new audience segment.
Crunchyroll's new channel will be available on multiple platforms in the coming weeks, including LG Channel (October 11), Roku Channel (October 11), Vizio WatchFree+ (October 11), and Amazon's Freevee (October 17).
Launch titles for the new channel will include catalog series such as "Horimiya," "King's Ranking," "Moriarty the Patriot," "Psycho-Pass," "Arifureta," "Sugar Apple Fairy Tale," "To Eternity," and "Code Geass." In the future, more promotional, genre, and thematic programming blocks are planned to broaden the channel's offerings. Crunchyroll Channel series will be dubbed in English.
According to Crunchyroll, new releases and premium titles will continue on the company's existing SVOD and AVOD platforms.
Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini said in a release:
The Crunchyroll channel is a gateway to the world of anime, leading viewers to discover new worlds, new stories and new characters. And thanks to our distribution partners at launch, millions of fans have easy access to a medium that is taking the world by storm.
Cartoon Brew's take: This seems like a home run for Crunchyroll and the art form of anime, and given that the Crunchyroll channel will be available on multiple free platforms, millions of potential fans will be to get acquainted with the medium, and will have access to a much richer library of anime titles.
