Skybound Entertainment, producer of "Invincible," establishes Skybound Japan
Skybound Entertainment, the company behind "The Walking Dead" and the animated series "Invincible," has launched Skybound Japan, a new division established to expand the company's global reach.
Skybound has been ramping up its plans in Japan since last year. The company first invested in Limou, an international anime distribution company founded by Japanese publisher Shueisha, and in September signed a deal with Fuji Television to produce a series adaptation of "Heart Attack. The project is based on the original Skybound graphic novel series by Sean Kittelsen and illustrator Erik Sawatzki.
The book-to-series description states:
This jaw-dropping sci-fi television series depicts a post-pandemic world where human beings have been saved from disease by gene therapy. [Rick Jacobs, managing partner of linear content at Skybound, said in a release:
We are thrilled to launch Skybound Japan and partner with some of the world's greatest creators. As a lifelong fan of Japanese content, it is a dream come true to help bring these stories to life in live action and animation. The film adaptation of "Heart Attack" is just the beginning of what we hope to accomplish in the Japanese market.
Skybound Japan is headed by Ash Nukui, producer of "Sniffer" and "Memories of an Amnesiac Teenager" and formerly of the Namco Bandai Group.
