TeamTO Moves to New Studio in Paris, Reduces Carbon Footprint by 63% (Exclusive Photos)
French entertainment company TeamTO has produced such popular content as the "City of Ghosts" series, which recently won a Netflix Children's & Family Emmy Award, "PJ Masks" and "Elena of Avalor". Now, the company has taken another step toward environmental protection by moving into a state-of-the-art studio in Paris.
TeamTO moved into a newly renovated space in the Bastille district over the past two weeks after outgrowing their old rental space where the studio had outgrown it. according to TeamTO.
TeamTO co-founder Guillaume Helouin and his staff began the company's environmental policy 17 years ago, and he has spent the last 15 years researching ways to reduce the company's carbon footprint while producing content in a sustainable manner. Based on that research, TeamTO CTO Jean-Baptiste Speiser and his technical team put together a plan for the new space and implemented changes that will reduce the studio's carbon footprint by 63%.
Of the new studio, TeamTO describes the changes as follows: [Reduced travel by choosing locations based on commuting distance and accessibility for over 200 employees, using only recycled wood for construction, and green space requiring minimal water while providing an ecosystem of birds and insects, The project includes hot refrigerator systems instead of microwave ovens, low-energy, free-cooling ventilation, 100% renewable energy, extended life for workstations (6 years) and servers (10 years), and a data center enhanced by AI-based open-source management software.
The studio is located in a renovated building that was formerly a well-known private museum, called "La Maison Rouge" because within its walls was originally a small Parisian house. The old house is now the center of the studio, with a bar and kitchen on the ground floor; editing for TeamTO takes place in a small room on the second floor. The rest of the studio space was renovated with the addition of a courtyard and large windows to ensure that TeamTO's employees, regardless of their location or work, are never far from natural light.
In addition to environmentally friendly construction and initiatives, TeamTO has long made small, environmentally friendly choices, such as going paperless, using only reusable cups and dishes, encouraging the use of electric and pedal-powered vehicles, and even experimenting with heating the pool using heat from the servers.
Of the new studio space and his team's efforts, Hellein says:
I have been able to imagine, develop, and create this amazing, artist-centered, progressive animation studio over the past four years, from technology to production I am so proud of the work that the entire team has accomplished. The results are truly amazing and will serve as a nest for the next generation of talent for the next 15 years.
